HOWTO: Active Directory - Replace a Schema Master DC

Start the Active Directory Schema Manager by first registering the dll:
regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll
Now create a custom MMC and add the Active Directory Schema snap-in. From the Start menu, select Run, and enter
MMC
From the Console menu, select Add/Remove Snap-in. Click Add, and select Active Directory Schema. Click Close and OK.
  • Right-click Active Directory Schema, and select Change Domain Controller.
  • Now select your new DC.
  • Right-click Active Directory Domains Schema, and select Operations Master.
  • Click change to select your new schema master, and also select the checkbox labeled The Schema may be modified on this server. (This will set the registry key to allow changes to the schema).
